REPEAT OFFENDERS

The majority of offenders were proceeded against by police only once during 2013-14 for all selected states and territories. South Australia had the lowest proportion of repeat offenders (12%), while the Northern Territory and Queensland had the highest proportion of repeat offenders (34% and 30%, respectively). Queensland and the Northern Territory also had the highest proportion of offenders who were proceeded against five times or more during the reference period (5%). (Table 9)

Data on the number of proceedings that police initiated against offenders during the reference period are not available for Western Australia (refer to paragraph 60 of the Explanatory Notes). As such, no repeat offender data are published for Western Australia, and national totals cannot be produced.
